Academic and Professional Background

Professor (Helen) Hong Xu is a Ph.D. in Library and Information Science and M.S. in Educational Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, B.A. and M.A. in Library Science from Wuhan University. She currently serves as the University Librarian at the University of Macau. She previously held positions as the University Librarian at Duke Kunshan University, Associate University Librarian at Duke University, Associate University Librarian at City University of Hong Kong, and Head of the East Asian Library at the University of Pittsburgh. She has also held academic positions at universities in China and the United States.

Research and Professional Contributions

Professor Xu is actively engaged in the field of library and information science both domestically and internationally, with research interests including library architecture and space, library management, information organization, and bibliometrics. She serves as a Standing Committee Member of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) Library Buildings and Equipment Section (2023–2027), Vice Chair of the China Library Association’s Building and Equipment Committee (2022–2025), Vice Chair of the Council of the Guangdong, Hongkong, Macau University Library Alliance (GHMULA), founding Executive Director of the Society of Chinese Scholarly Librarians (SCSL), and a member of editorial boards for several academic journals in China and abroad. She has edited, authored, translated, and published a number of books and journals including overseas historical documents, and has authored numerous academic papers. She is also frequently invited to lecture at universities and serve as a guest speaker at various libraries.
