UM Library Delegation Visits GDSTL to Explore Deepening Cooperation in Intellectual Property Information Services (2025-12-03)

On December 2, 2025, Prof. Helen Xu, University Librarian of the University of Macau, led a delegation to visit the Guangdong Science and Technology Library (also the Information Research Institute of Guangdong Academy of Sciences, abbreviated as “GDSTL”) for a discussion and exchange. The delegation was warmly received by GDSTL Director Qiu Gang, Deputy Director Wang Chunming, Director Assistant Tang Zhengwu of the Information and Intellectual Property Research Center, and other team members.

The visit began with a tour of GDSTL’s Intellectual Property Service Space, followed by an in-depth discussion. Director Qiu introduced GDSTL’s historical development, dual institutional structure, and its specialized services in science and technology decision-making, innovation support, and public services. He also shared achievements and experience in strategic research on the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, industrial clusters, and future industry studies. Prof. Xu presented the development of UM Library, the new campus in Hengqin and its library construction plans, as well as the library’s research support services and patent information service system. Deputy Director Wang shared GDSTL’s experience in building a WIPO Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC), including service teams, professional qualifications, and a multi-tiered service framework.

Participants of both sides focused on exchanging views on research support services, intellectual property services, and cooperation. They also reviewed the jointly completed CNIPA soft science research project “Research on the Intellectual Property Information Public Service System in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” and explored future collaboration directions, including patent information services and education, domestic and international patent portfolio strategy, and support services, and establishing a regular exchange mechanism. This visit laid a solid foundation for deepening cooperation between the two libraries in intellectual property services and regional innovation support.

The UM Library delegation included Assistant University Librarian Billy Leung, Functional Head Henry Yang, Library Officer Manson Ip, and Senior Administrative Assistant Igor Ho.
