Mr. Gao Daqing’s “Splendour Cast in Gold” Donation Ceremony Successfully Held (2025-11-26)
On the afternoon of November 26th, renowned artist Mr. Gao Daqing presented the blue-and-white colour-glazed plate “Splendour Cast in Gold” (華光鑄金) to the University of Macau. The donation ceremony was held at the Wu Yee Sun Library on the university campus. UM Attendees at the ceremony included Prof. Jie XU, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities; Prof. Hong XU, University Librarian; Mr. Hoi Wai Tat, Head of Special Collection Unit; and librarians Ms. Song Sok Fong and Ms. Law Sio Kuan.
“Splendour Cast in Gold” (華光鑄金), completed in early 2025, is Mr. Gao Daqing’s latest creation. The plate features a high-temperature glaze with golden, crystallized hues, stretching like an endless bank and soaring like a towering tree – a powerful symbol of concentrated energy. The rim of the dish is adorned with delicate blue and white porcelain brushstrokes, swirling and dappled to resemble both pools and fish, crowns and leaves, highlighting the color of life. Rooted in the artist’ s contemplation of life, the piece presents a beautiful vision of “complexity born from simplicity”, and conveys the fleeting splendour of life, where “simplicity is discerned within the ordinary”.
Mr. Gao Daqing, based in
Shenzhen, has long devoted himself to the creation and research of contemporary
ceramics, blue and white
porcelain and
glazes. He is a member
of the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC) affiliated with
UNESCO, and a recognized
Master of Arts and Crafts in Shenzhen. His works are part of the
collections of various professional institutions, including the China National
Arts and Crafts Museum, the Ceramics Museum at Caldas da Rainha, the Mohammed
VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Morocco, the Xi'an Museum, and many
more.
