On the morning of July 23, 2025, Mr. Benjamin Meunier, University Librarian, and Ms. Jenny Lam, Open Science Librarian from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), visited the University of Macau (UM) Library for an exchange of ideas and discussions on collaboration. They were warmly welcomed by the University of Macau Library team, led by University Librarian Professor (Helen) Hong Xu, along with Assistant University Librarian Mr. Billy Leung, Functional Heads Ms. Priscilla Pun, Mr. Stephen Lei, Mr. Wilson Hoi, and the University Librarian’s Secretary, Ms. Winnie Leung. A number of faculty liaison librarians from the UM Library also participated in the morning discussions. The two parties engaged in in-depth discussions on global open science developments, the publication of scientific research papers, and open-access books and journals in Hong Kong and Macau. During the visit, they toured two exhibitions: “Winds of Confluence: The Story of Macao in the Historical Archives of the Ming and Qing Dynasties” and “Regarding Books.”

In the afternoon, an “Open Science Workshop”, co-organized by the UM Library, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Library, and the CUHK Library, was held at the USJ Library. Mr. Meunier and Ms. Lam were invited as special guests to share Hong Kong’s experience in open-access book publishing with over 30 colleagues from university and college libraries in Macau and to discuss the future development of Chinese publishing in the context of global open science trends. Seven staff from the UM Library also attended the afternoon workshop.
