UM Library Successfully Hosts Themed Talk Exploring New Paradigms of Smart Libraries and Humanities Resear the Age of AI (2026-05-29)
On Thursday, 28 May 2026, the University of Macau Library successfully hosted a themed talk entitled “From Catalogues to Agents: The Transformation of Smart Libraries and Humanistic Research in the Age of AI.” The event attracted more than 30 faculty members, students, and library staff, and featured lively exchanges and discussions.
The talk was delivered by Professor Jun Wang (王軍) from Peking University, a distinguished scholar specializing in digital humanities, knowledge organization, and artificial intelligence. Professor Wang currently holds joint appointments in the Department of Information Management, the Department of History, and the Institute for Artificial Intelligence at Peking University, and serves as Director of the Digital Humanities Research Center.
Against the backdrop of the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence technologies, Professor Wang began with traditional library catalogues and knowledge organization methods and explored in depth the evolution of smart libraries as well as the methodological and paradigmatic shifts faced by humanities research in digital and intelligent environments. Integrating theoretical analysis with practical case studies, the talk illustrated how artificial intelligence is reshaping modes of knowledge production, organization, and application, and offered forward-looking insights into the future roles of libraries and the development of humanities research.
Combining academic depth with practical perspectives, the talk provided participants with a more comprehensive understanding of emerging trends in smart library development and the application of artificial intelligence in humanities research.
The post-talk discussion session generated active exchanges, reflecting the strong interest of faculty members, students, and librarians in these topics.
The UM Library will continue to organize a wide range of academic and themed talks and activities to promote interdisciplinary exchange, support teaching and research development, and further strengthen the library’s role as a knowledge hub in the digital and artificial intelligence era.
