Book Talk and Panel Discussion were successfully held (2026-05-08)
A book talk and panel discussion for Dreaming of a Sea of Books: The Story of a Librarian, organized by the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao University Library Alliance, was successfully held on April 30 at the Library of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. The event attracted over 100 library professionals from across the Greater Bay Area, participating both online and in person. The event featured Dr. WU Jianzhong, former University Librarian of the University of Macau, who shared insights from his newly published book. Structured primarily in chronological order and complemented by thematic chapters, the book traces the author’s academic and professional journey in libraries and related fields in China and abroad, while also offering reflections on the future of libraries. More than a personal memoir, the book provides readers with multidimensional perspectives on libraries and culture, making it both engaging and thought‑provoking.
The accompanying panel discussion, themed “Between
Continuity and Change: A Librarian’s Life Story and Professional Values,”
brought together Dr. Wu Jianzhong alongside Prof. GE Jianxiong, University Librarian
of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen; Prof. (Helen) XU Hong, University Librarian of the
University of Macau; and Prof. ZHANG Jing, University Librarian of Sun
Yat-sen University.
Prior to the event, participants toured The Chinese
University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen Library. After the event, seven library representatives
from the libraries of the University of Macau, Macao University of Tourism, and
City University of Macau also visited the Sun Yat-sen University Shenzhen
Campus Library. They engaged in in-depth discussions with Ms. LI
Jiuyan, Director of the Office, and her colleagues on topics including library
building design, spatial layout, multi-campus resource development and sharing
models, and smart library services.
